Access the Storehouse

Theme: Blessings

Why are we so hesitant to ask God for blessings? Do we think that is selfish? Do we think it is wrong? Do we think God will run out of blessings and someone may need it more than us? Listen, God's storehouse of blessing has no limit. God's stock is always on the rise. God's desire to bless His children never ends.

Now the words we read in today's Scripture are from Moses. And the context is a speech or sermon he gives to the people of God. And the basic idea is obedience to God equals blessing and disobedience equals curses. So Moses is not preaching a prosperity message, but an obedience message. So maybe that is why we are hesitant to ask God for blessing, because we know we have disobeyed. We know we always fall short of living in complete and perfect obedience to the law of God. And that is the danger of living in the old covenant. While every rule was a blessing, it was a blessing in disguise because people have a hard time seeing rules as blessings. And that is why the new covenant is not based on what we can do, but on what Jesus did. Jesus Christ came to do what none of us could, to perfectly fulfill the righteous requirement of the law so we could experience the mercy and grace of God. Jesus Christ died and rose again so we would not longer be defeated as we stare at the law, but be victorious as we stare at the cross. Jesus Christ came so we would no longer obey out of duty, but delight.

While a new covenant was made, one thing has never changed, God's heart to bless His children. The Lord desires to open the storehouse of heaven and bless our work. So let us ask for His blessing on the work of our hands not because of who we are, but because of who God is, a God with endless blessing who desires to bless His children.

Scripture: Deuteronomy 28:12

"The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of His bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. "

Prayer: Blessings

“Lord, I believe You have everything we need and You want to bless us. You tell us in Your Word that You will open the heavens to bless the work we do. We know that without You, we can do nothing. we ask that You will open the heavens and pour out Your blessings and power over us. We give our work and our efforts to You and I ask You for favor and blessing in anything our hands touch (surrender specific efforts to Him). May it be for Your glory alone so that others may see Your power and goodness at work.”
