Theme: Refresh My Soul
Our soul is who we are - our will, thinking, decisions, personality, and emotions. We have a body, but who we are is our soul. Our souls get depleted by stress and anxiety. So they need to be taken care of. Your life may be a wreck right now. You are on empty. You don't see a solution. If that is you, this is for you. You need to hit pause and start taking care of your soul.
I will be talking about some things we can do to take care of our souls on Mother's Day, but wanted to give you one today - space and dose breaks during the day. We don't need a long time to recharge, we need frequency. If you take a 45 minute walk in the morning and then sit in front of a screen for 8 hours you just nullified the effect of that walk. Doctors prescribe doses rather than one big horse pill. Why? Because one pill three times a day for two weeks is a better way to get the medication in your system than one large dose. This is the same in emotional renewal. Find what recharges you and do it several times a day.
Shooting hoops, reading, puzzles, getting up from your desk and walking down the hall, listening to a song or podcast episode, running an errand or anything that breaks the routine. What do I do during these times? Talk to God during those breaks. Focus on the Scripture and prayer for this week. I suggest downloading our Canton Nazarene Connect App so you can access the 217 Prayer Blog. All of them are available in the CONNECT section. You can simply read the Scripture, read the prayer, and talk to God.
Your soul needs intentional care. Don't feel guilty or unproductive for taking the time to take care of you. If you are not well, then you will suffer and all the people in your life will suffer as well. Taking the time to take care of your soul is very important. You will see in the 23 Psalm King David says, "He refreshes my soul." I imagine if David needed his soul refreshed, we do too.
Scripture: Psalm 23 (NIV)
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely Your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Prayer: Refresh My Soul
“God, You are my Provider, and I know You will take care of me. Thank You for guiding me to places of rest. You are my source of energy and passion. You keep me going and lead me toward a life of purpose and freedom. I know that even when I experience my darkest seasons of difficulty and challenge, I have nothing to be afraid of because You are with me. Your presence and power are a constant comfort to me. I know that You are preparing the way for me and that my enemies cannot touch me because You are taking care of me. I know that You have blessed me, and I thank You for choosing me and anointing me with purpose. Your blessings are so much more than I could ask for. I know that You are good, God, and that You are with me all the days of my life. You have chosen me, and I have chosen You, and that means I will be with You, in Your presence, forever.”
